Fargo Golf Guide
Before the Coen brothers brought Fargo to national attention in their movie of the same name, this North Dakota town was famous for being the home of Roger Maris, the New York Yankee slugger who broke Babe Ruth's single-season home run record in 1961 by belting 61 dingers. Today, the Roger Maris Museum celebrates the man and the ballplayer. Fans of America's pastime can take in a Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks game at Newman Outdoor Field, and fans of fine arts can visit the Plains Art Museum.
When it's time to tee it up, many locals choose to play Edgewood Municipal Golf Course, a highly regarded track that is not overly long and features plenty of mature trees. Golfers can shore up their short games at El Zagal Par 3 Course, then head to the 9-hole Prairiewood Golf Course. Once they've straightened out their drives, golfers should play Rose Creek Golf Course, which plays more than 6,600 yards. Should they want to play a more exclusive course, golfers should make the short drive to Mapleton so they can experience Maple River Golf Course, a semi-private course. Fargo Country Club and Oxbow Golf & Country Club are Fargo's two private courses.
