Molokai Golf Guide

Molokai The Hawaiian Islands are the most remote landmasses on Earth, a fact that is difficult to fathom when tourists are stuck in traffic in Honolulu or waiting to get a table in one of the crowded restaurants on Maui. But the untrammeled Hawaii, the one travelers dream of when hunkering against winter's chilling blasts elsewhere, exist in abundance on Molokai.

No traffic lights exist on this pristine paradise, so traffic doesn't exist, and no building on the island rises above the height of a coconut tree. Yet traditional Hawaiian culture is preserved on Molokai better than it is on the other islands. The area near Maunaloa is said to have given birth to the hula. Plenty of scenic beauty also exists on Molokai, including the world's tallest sea cliffs, according to Guinness Book of World Records, and these cliffs are best spied from atop mules that ferry travelers along the 2.9-mile trail that leads to the Kalaupapa Peninsula.

As for golf, no one will mistake Molokai for Pinehurst, since only two courses exist on the island, and one of them, Ironwood Hills Golf Course, is a nine-hole muni. The other course, Kaluakoi Golf Club & Resort, is a Ted Robinson design that will make visitors to Molokai glad that they brought their clubs.
