Pattaya has more championship golf packed into a smaller radius than anywhere else in Thailand. More than twenty courses sit within an hour of the beach, and the quality at the top end is legitimate. Siam Country Club is the crown jewel, a four-course compound where the Old Course has hosted the Honda LPGA Thailand every year since 2010 and the newer Rolling Hills has drawn rave reviews since opening. Laem Chabang International Country Club brings a 27-hole Jack Nicklaus design that regularly lands on lists of the best courses in the country, Burapha Golf Club has hosted the Thailand Open across its 36 holes, and Chee Chan Golf Resort plays in the shadow of a mountain with a giant golden Buddha carved into its face, which is not a sentence you get to write about many golf courses. Green fees run a fraction of what comparable golf costs back home, and early tee times mean you can be done before the heat and the fun both peak.

And the fun does peak. Pattaya is Thailand's most famous party town, with beach bars, rooftop clubs, cabaret shows, and the neon sprawl of Walking Street for groups that treat the 19th hole as a warmup. It is a buddies-trip destination first and foremost, though the Sanctuary of Truth, a boat trip to Koh Larn, and a growing stable of five-star hotels give the trip more range than its reputation suggests. Fly into Bangkok, drive ninety minutes southeast, and the hardest decision left is which course gets the first tee time.
